My GEO audit checklist — 12 things I check before any strategy recommendation

After running GEO audits for about 20 clients over the past eight months, I have settled on a repeatable checklist. Sharing it here because I could not find anything like this when I started. **Entity Layer** ☐ Wikipedia page exists and is accurate ☐ Wikidata entry is populated (founding date, description, headquarters, key people) ☐ Google Knowledge Panel appears for brand name query ☐ Crunchbase / LinkedIn Company page is complete ☐ Consistent NAP (name, address, phone) across all directories **Content Layer** ☐ At least 5 pages with direct, quotable answers to high-intent queries ☐ Each key page has a clear author with credentials visible ☐ Proprietary data, statistics or research cited on the domain ☐ FAQ schema implemented on relevant pages **Citation Layer** ☐ Domain cited in at least 3 recognised publications (news, trade press, academic) ☐ Brand mentioned on Reddit, Quora or industry forums without promotional intent ☐ Backlink profile includes .edu or .gov links (strong trust signal for AI training) **Testing Layer** ☐ Run 20 target queries through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AIO and record results ☐ Note whether brand is cited, paraphrased or absent That last step is the most important. You cannot improve what you have not measured.
